English Lessons

An Open Door continue to provide outstanding English Lessons in attractive locations in places of interest! Our teachers are well experienced and we cater for all ages and ability ranges.

English Lessons with An Open Door:

English Courses

Our General English courses are available all year round and courses are available every Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30am-10pm, and weekends are available upon request if required.

These are the most popular courses we run and are booked in multiple 1 hour sessions.
For example: Lessons from 9.00-12.00 ( 3 x 1hr sessions).

We are able to accommodate most levels, beginners to advanced level. The classes are available for anyone over 16 years of age, but school groups of pupils have been as young as 8 years old.

At An Open Door we have had the pleasure of arranging advanced English Lessons for groups of English language teachers (adults) from overseas educational establishments, so we are able to cover a broad spectrum of ages and abilities.

The courses are built around your group requirements based on the ability of the students, and their requirements which would be discussed before the course start date so we can prepare the necessary materials prior to course commencement. (e.g. You may require a bespoke teaching package which includes materials based on group excursions).

Our teachers have a wealth of experience and knowledge, and skilled at teaching English at all levels.

Please note:
Class sizes to a maximum of 15 students per class. This is to enable greater contact time between teacher and pupil.

General English

Classes focus on developing your English language skills for everyday life situations. Teachers prepare lessons that are interesting, engaging, helpful and challenging for the students depending on the focus of the class. Every student in every class is provided with a course book, but the teacher will also use materials from other sources to keep the content relevant and up-to-date! These could include DVD, Audio CD, sound bites etc.. Our venues vary in size and facilities, all schools have white boards, some schools have interactive whiteboards and projectors. Most importantly, there will be a lot of opportunity to practise speaking with other individuals, students and teachers.

It is important to us that our students have a great learning experience at Opendoors! We want students to achieve the best they can, and we believe this happens when they are actively involved in their learning and they are challenged and motivated by their studies.

Students are able to approach teachers and course leaders at anytime, break times or at the end of day sessions to discuss their learning requirements and needs, as well as progress, and all teachers are very approachable and more than happy to discuss any points raised.

English Plus+

These courses can run for up to 30 hours a week. 50% of the course is based on General English skills, and then the remaining 50% will be on either exam focus, business or study English or general English. There will be ample time to discus personal requirements with your teaching staff, and you will be provided with feedback, and guidance on what you need to focus on in order to improve.

(Subject to availability on student enrolment numbers)

Exam Preparation

Exam preparation classes at Opendoors will focus on the language that is required for students to pass the exam successfully, as well an in-depth understanding of the exam and learning useful exam strategies to instil confidence in preparation for the exam.

I would recommend seeking the advice of our teachers with regard to which exam to enter before making your choice as different exam boards/syllabuses test in different ways, and our teachers can guide you in the right direction.

If you have already registered for a particular exam course, or are following a particular course in your home country, then our teachers will provide you with the tuition your require for that particular course.

What can learners expect at An Opendoors

After your booking and registration has been made, a start date will be confirmed. If you are an overseas school group (with excursions and tours), the dates and times will be as you have selected to fit in with the rest of your stay, and pre arranged with the office when you made your initial enquiries. (You may have homestay with us also? Or you have arranged your own accommodation but only require lessons).

Students who arrive with test scores/levels from the school in their home country will be placed into set groups based on those scores on arrival (if the guide/teachers travelling with them have not done so prior to arrival).

If on arrival the group has no test scores and are not already set for placing into groups, a placement test will be required. A multiple choice grammar and listening test, after which you will then be placed into a set group based on the results.

After lessons have commenced, students can be moved up or down group level wise, if the teacher feels this is necessary and beneficial to the student’s progress.

Students may request being moved (N.B. Based on ability not on friendship groups), provided the class teacher agrees. If travelling by group and the group leaders (teacher/guide) recommends individuals be moved based on their ability, then this will happen after brief consultation with the class teacher, and trial period to confirm placement is suitable.

If this is of interest then get in touch using the enquiry link or contact us directly via email. We look forward to hearing from you soon…

English Tuition

All our Teachers are CELTA (TEFL) qualified, and have a current DBS (CRB). Before the first lesson, we can arrange a short TEST to identify which level of English the student has and then we group them accordingly. (Unless students arrived pre-grouped).

Groups of students who have been set into groups on ability before arrival (by their Teachers / School), will commence lessons without the need for a test. We only allow up to a maximum of 15 students per class room to give the students the best individual attention from the Teacher. We can provide a student’s workbook which students can take home with them after the course for future reference.

At the end of a course, a certificate of attendance to the language course indicating level of achievement is presented to each student.

Courses can be delivered to prepare students for particular exam courses e.g. ILETS, Cambridge English Exams or other exam preparation.
